Come and be Safe and Warm

In the last ten years the cost of heating a home with fuel oil has more than doubled. Heating a home with electricity has risen in cost by one third.

Wages have not kept pace.

On top of this, the recent surge in unemployment has forced more people out of their homes to live in cars, with friends and anywhere they can.

We don't want anyone to have to sleep outside on one of our bitter, cold nights. Everyone is welcome here. We'll make up beds on the chapel floor if we have to.

With help from good friends like you, Washington City Mission has become the largest shelter in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Our doors are open every day of the year to care for people in need. The food is good. The beds are warm. The staff is friendly and helpful.

We offer the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all who hunger and thirst for the blessing and love of God.

To send a gift to pay for the heat expenses please click the donate now button to make a donation at our secure service. Any remaining funds will provide food, and to help cover the costs of providing shelter.

16th Annual Sweet Sunday, February 21, 2009

The Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe will be the site for our Sweet Sunday Dessert Festival again this year between the hours of 1 pm and 6 pm. We will open the doors for lunch at our expanded snack bar at noon and the scrumptious sweets in the ballroom will be ready for consumption at 1:00 pm.

New this year is a celebrity judge who will select his/her favorite dessert. Think you have what it takes? Contact Donna Bussey to sign up as a dessert vendor. (dbussey@citymission.org)

In addition to the fabulous desserts, live entertainment will be introduced by our wonderful Master of Ceremonies, Ron King. Kids Korner this year will again feature face painting, two caricature artists and wonderful crafts for children.

The auction area will feature over 40 baskets chocked full of many wonderful items – something for everyone!

If you would like to volunteer for this wonderful event please contact Cortney Brock, our volunteer coordinator (cbrock@citymission.org). Cortney has partnered the Washington City Mission with Disney’s Give a Day, Get a Disney Day Program. All Sweet Sunday volunteers are eligible for a voucher for a one day pass to Disney properties.

Come one, come all, but you must come to Sweet Sunday 2010 – mark your calendars and make a date to support your local homeless shelter!
